A newsletter? Why a newsletter?
The first thing I do in the morning is take the dogs for a jog. Upon returning from that jog, I look at my email and delete the gazillion emails that come in overnight. Most are retailers reminding me about a sale or a coupon or trying to convince me I need an air fryer. (Which I do not).
But there are some emails I keep. I don’t read them immediately, but I do keep them marked as unread so I can peruse when I have the time.
E-mail marketing campaigns run the gambit of usefulness. Some newsletters are a great source of information and inspiration. Others are good to resources for the future. There are those that focus on tips and tricks for doing something better or different. Some provide news or analysis of the market or world events. Promotion of events or webinars are common. Of course, there are also e-mail campaigns focused on getting us to buy something. (No, I still do not need an air fryer).
As I was planning my strategy for 2021, the question was raised as to whether I would create and distribute a newsletter. My first instinct was to say no. That seemed like a lot of work that would likely get deleted. However, I noodled on the idea. I did some research into tools for creating, sending and managing newsletters. I brainstormed different topics I could write about and include in my newsletter. All the tactical components of doing a newsletter seemed within reach.
No one needs more tactical activities on their plate if they are not serving a purpose.
Does a newsletter serve my business’s purpose?
That simple question gave me my answer. Yes, a newsletter would serve Elevation Business Consulting’s purpose in helping small businesses succeed and business owners to feel less chaotic in running their daily operations. I am motivated to help as many small business owners as possible. A newsletter, featuring insights about running daily operations with less chaos is an ideal way to impact more small business owners.
I’m making the commitment to create and/or disseminate content that will support the small business owner in running their business. My newsletter will not be long or flashy. It will be simple and straight forward. I will hold myself accountable to sending out a monthly newsletter and I ask you to hold me accountable to this commitment as well.
